Colour and skulls!

I love colour!  I also love skulls!  And what better way to combine the two than to create a painting inspired by Mexican sugar skulls?  I love folk art, and when I first came across sugar skulls and Day of the Dead artwork online I was smitten!  I would love to get some pieces for my home, if only I had the money to afford some!  For now, this will have to do.

Looking Back...

I always enjoy going through my old sketchbooks, as quite often I sketch things during events in my life to help me cope with them.  Or sometimes just to capture some things that I'm experiencing at the time.  These two sketches were ones I had done while traveling to New Brunswick on holiday.  The one with the telephone wires is pretty typical of what you can see landscape-wise for several hours along Canadian highways.  Or at least that's what I recall.

Salad Fingers

A few of my coworkers are fans of Salad Fingers, and so one weekend when I had some spare time, and some greenish yarn, I decided to make one of them a Salad Fingers of her own.  He's not perfect, but he's close enough.

Hello child, I've come to inquire about your spoons.

Coconut Tumour Yummies!

The Hub had a hankering for something sweet but I was short on ingredients to make any known recipe to humankind.  So, I made it up as I went along because I REALLY couldn't be bothered to step outside into the cold, dreary night just for the sake of baking cookies.  I umm...got a little crazy with the red food dye.  I brought some to the guys upstairs and Doug exclaimed, "Oh how...er...those are great meat wads?".  I decided at that point that these cookies will henceforth be known as

Coconut Tumour Yummies.

We also had a little furry someone scurrying in our garden today instead of the squirrels.  She got pretty darn close to me before I chickened out and ran away from the kitchen door.  I swear she looked bloodthirsty, ok?  Isn't she great...and fiercely deathly to humans fierce!!

Pieces of Chicken

Here we go, this is just one of a few things I made this weekend.  I basically crocheted a whole bunch of bits and pieces and decided that I would put them together in different ways to come up with a variety of creatures.  It was actually a lot of fun because there was no pressure on me to have things turn out a certain way, I was just making shapes.  This one I'm particularly fond of.  It's a free form chicken.  It was initially going to be a tea cozy, then I changed my mind.  I've got a bag full of things that I'd made and over the next few days I'll start stitching them together and see what comes out of it.  Oh yeah, and the chicken contains pink and yellow, which are some of the colours of Project Spectrum for the next two months.

Project Spectrum

Last year I signed up for Project Spectrum and it really didn't go anywhere because of my move and all the other nonsense going on in my life at the time.  This year, I am re-dedicating myself to it. Stay tuned for some colour inspired crochet creations. Here are the themes for the upcoming months:

February / March
Blue, White, Gray

April / May
Green, Yellow, Pink

June / July
Red, Black, Metallics

August / September
Brown, Orange, Purple

Feelin' Punchariffic

Hullo, I am writing from the lovely den area of my friends' home as we're spending the weekend here.  I am ever so slightly tipsy and have spent a lot of my evening trying to work off the large bag of Curry flavoured chips I ate earlier by punching away at my friend's stand-up punching bag.  I'm growing very fond of the punching bag, and I think I may need one for myself at home as punching this thing is really surprisingly satisfying.

I've been a little frustrated lately. I believe this need to punch things stems from that.  I've also been handling this stress by eating chips.  I've wanted chips almost every night this week and finally broke down today.  I don't understand the chip fixation myself but I can't adequately express the joy I had of tearing into that bag.

I'm afraid of getting on the slippery slope of weight gain.  I fear I'm just a donut away.

Must...determine...motivations.  I'll work on that, yeah.  In the meantime, there's some goodies within reach of me and I may partake of one or two things before I buckle down yet again.

Or then again, maybe I won't.

I'm so undecided.

So very, very chic

The other day I lost my pants while running for the bus.  They just---fell off me in the middle of the street.  I think my husband was even more surprised than I was when it happened.  Then yesterday I managed somehow to dunk half of my hair into a bowl of chili, and for the rest of the afternoon, I smelled like chili, and I couldn't get it out of my hair until I got home.   These are reasons I will never be a style icon.

Homer and Cupcakes

It's not often I get a Saturday off, in fact, it's been a while since I've had one off.  This weekend just happens to be one of those rarities.  My friends made a point of coming over, it is just that rare.  So, in honour of free Saturdays (and my friends' anniversary) I made some cupcakes.  I was about to ice them myself, when my friend (who had at that point had a substantial amount of red wine in his system) insisted that he ice his own.  So, we all did.  Even the Hubster enthusiastically went at his cake with pink icing.  I've never had a prouder moment.

Homer seems to enjoy the company of cupcakes, too.

And here's an aerial shot.   The Hub's cake is on the lower left, mine is above his.  I didn't get too crazy, because I was making it for him and he doesn't like icing that much.  He on the other hand made certain I had me a mountain of icing.  Bless him.

Needless to say, when I got up this morning there were sprinkles, frosting, coconut, several empty wine bottles and hunks of cupcake scattered throughout my apartment.  It was a regular cupcake party, for sure.

Yayyy Spring

Prior to being infected with a stomach bug, the Hubster and I had managed to get ourselves outside for some quality walking.  I would have posted sooner, but the bug got the best of me too.  I swear the Hub catches something, it mutates within him and it infects me ten times worse!

Anyhow, on with the pretty walking pictures.  These were taken from "The Mountain" as is known by locals here.  Hamilton is part of the Niagara Escarpment so there's and upper and lower part of the city.

The Hub took these two pictures by the way.  I can't take credit for them.  I really like this tree, it's rather a sexy tree, isn't it?

I took this picture because I liked the colour of the rail.  I'm weird like that.

This one was taken in my backyard.  I had to take the picture through my window, as I didn't want to scare the little guy off from his sunbathing.  He was out there for quite a while soaking up the rays.
